Description
The OSHA Outreach 30-hr. for the Construction Industry provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards on worksites where construction activities are conducted. The program also provides information regarding workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.
This 30-hr. class will be presented by staff from the DOL&WD's Alaska Section of Occupational Safety and Health (AKOSH).
Objectives / Topics
The Outreach Training Program is intended as an orientation to Occupational Safety and Health as related to construction activities.
The OSHA Outreach Training Program provides training on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of workplace hazards and conditions that DOT&PF staff may encounter, create or be exposed to during construction activities.
Required topics will include:
Introduction to OSHA
Managing Safety and Health
OSHA Focus Four Hazards(Falls, Electrocution, Struck-By, Caught-In or Between)
Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment
Health Hazards in Construction
Stairways and Ladders
Elective topics will include:
Confined Space Entry
Excavations
Motor Vehicles, Mechanized Equipment and Marine Operations; Rollover Protective Structures and Overhead Protection; and Signs, Signals and Barricades
Additional Elective topics may include:
Concrete and Masonry Construction
Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Elevators and Conveyors
Ergonomics
Fire Protection and Prevention
Materials Handling, Storage, Use and Disposal
Powered Industrial Vehicles
Safety and Health Programs
Scaffolds
Steel Erection
Tools - Hand and Power
Welding and Cutting
Foundations for Safety Leadership
Other construction industry hazards or policies and/or expanded mandatory or elective topics
Target Audience
This 30-hr. class is appropriate for DOT&PF Chiefs, Managers, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Engineers, Architects, Inspectors, Engineering Assistants, Surveyors, Formen, Leads and any other DOT&PF staff, such as those in Construction, DES, PD&E, M&O, DFS, that conduct or plan construction-type field work.
Prerequisites
Current DOT&PF employee.

Successful completion of this class results in a nationally-recognized U.S. DOL/OSHA Course Completion card.
